Use ChatGPT like a recruiting champ

Recently, I wrote about the emergence of the TechnoEmpath, an evolved recruiter for the new age.

The optimum benefits of AI and automation will go to those who understand that recruitment will become a marriage of Art and Science.

The TechnoEmpath has highly sophisticated human influencing skills and is an advanced listener and relationship builder.

However, the TechnoEmpath has also highly evolved in terms of technology use. Indeed, they welcome it. A TechnoEmpath is AI literate, embraces CRM and ATS, and uses them to their fullest extent. They understand and use data analytics and adopt with vigour all AI and automation tools implemented, including search technologies, video interviewing, and assessment tools.

But what is a real-life example?

I have called on the help of Richard Wray, Sales Manager at RecruitmentX.ai, who is passionate about leveraging the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to drive business growth.

Richard knows how a TechnoEmpath starts to evolve tech skills, step by step, and with intent. He has developed a process to help recruiters master AI, especially ChatGPT, as a start.

The goal is to make ‘prompting’ feel like a conversation, not a technical hurdle. If someone can brief a colleague or give feedback to a junior recruiter, they already have the skills to prompt AI—they just don’t know it yet.

All the examples below are minimalist.  The more information you can give the AI, the better!

Here is Richard’s process. I have used it already myself. It improved my outcomes at once.

The 3-Level Prompting Framework

Richard has been using this to teach how to “talk to the A.I.”. in a way that builds confidence and control. His examples are practical and reflect some of the opportunities he has been facing as he markets a new AI tool (Recruitment X)

Level 1 – The Core 4 Steps (For beginners)

1.              State the scenario – e.g., Tell the AI, “I am a recruiter helping scale a SaaS sales team, and you are my assistant who will help me.”

2.              State what you want to achieve – “I want to write a LinkedIn post about our new screening tool.”

3.              State the target audience – “It’s aimed at agency owners aged 40–55.”

4.              Refine through conversation – Ask follow-up questions, make changes, and adjust the tone.

This level helps people start quickly and overcome the ‘blank page’ problem.

Level 2 – Prompt Like a Pro

Once you are comfortable, you can improve output by adding:

•                Examples of past content they like

•                Guidance on tone (e.g. “Write it like Greg Savage—direct, grounded, commercially smart”. (Richard wrote that, not me!)

•                Formatting instructions (e.g. “Write this as a 5-slide LinkedIn carousel”)

Level 3 – Advanced Prompting Context

This is where recruiters can go deeper and ensure brand consistency:

•                Upload documents or link to past posts to match voice (this can be done in a variety of ways)
•                Share internal writing guides
•                Reference audience insights or brand tone of voice
•                Use URLs to examples from a website or blog

At this level, recruiters get on-brand, on-tone, and on-message content from AI—with minimal rewriting.

What Richard is doing here is simple but clever. He is reframing ‘Prompting’ as a conversation and repositioning AI prompting to make it more approachable and less threatening to the novice. It’s part of your journey to being a TechnoEmpath.

·       Prompting isn’t technical. It’s just a conversation – with a fast assistant.

·       If you can brief a human, you can brief an AI.

·       Stop worrying about being ‘techy enough’ and use AI to support your judgment, not replace it.

The TechnoEmpath knows that AI isn’t a threat to their hard-won skills — it’s the assistant that lets them spend more time using those skills.
