My key recruiting tip for 2019
The intrusion of ‘digital’ and technology into our processes is a two-edged sword for recruiters.
It’s given us so many ways to find and engage with candidates and clients.
But it’s also allowed lazy, low-skilled recruiters to hide behind technology.
They have lost the influencing skills. The ability to create outcomes through communication, information, persuasion, advising and credibility.
They have reduced recruitment to a keyword-matching, mega-spamming, transactional, resume-race.
You must go the other way in 2019.
Here is why.
The future, and the now, of recruitment, is where cutting-edge technology merges with the most sophisticated human influencing skills.
I have no doubt whatsoever that automation will slice away big chunks of your job. You must be super-skilled at those key ‘moments of truth’ in recruitment
And they are the moments of influence, where outcomes can be shaped. And they don’t happen via email!
And it’s in those moments that the magic happens!
If what you are good at can be done better by technology, you have nothing to offer in the new world of recruiting.
But I never saw a computer manage a counter-offer or qualify a job-order yet, so reinvent yourself as a champion of influence, control, advice, sophisticated persuasion based on knowledge, and managing outcomes for the greater good of all parties.
And do you know what will flow from that?
Fun, money, self esteem.. and long careers.
