Recruitment sectors to boom in 2025 🚀
Good news!
🌏 Globally, 41% of employers plan to add headcount in the first three months of 2025!
🇦🇺 31 % of Australian employers will add headcount in the first quarter of 2025.
🇬🇧 In the UK, that number is 28%
This is encouraging data for Agency recruiters who will have an opportunity to bounce back strongly on a soft 2024. However, we must keep in mind that the report also reveals companies intending to reduce headcount. Also, remember, these are ‘hiring intentions’ only; a great deal can and will change.
(This is taken from the latest ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey as reported in Shortlist News)
The index shows that the Information Technology sector has returned to being Australia’s most competitive sector, while Communication Services is the only Australian sector with a negative net employment score of -12%.

Almost half of Australian organisations expect to maintain their headcount in the March quarter (48%), while some 18% anticipate a decrease in staff numbers, and 3% are unsure.
All regions except South Australia reported a net positive outlook for the quarter, while ACT and Queensland had the highest hiring intentions.
By company size, small organisations (with 10–49 employees) are the most optimistic in the quarter. Organisations with 250–999 employees reported the second-highest hiring intentions.
Let’s turn to hiring intentions in the UK.
Like Australia (27%), the sector with the most robust hiring intentions in the UK is ‘Information Technology’ (51%).
The sector with the most striking contrasts between the two countries is undoubtedly Communications Services. In Australia, this looks like a ‘dead zone‘ for hiring (-12%), while in the UK, it’s the third strongest sector at 30%
