Into Africa. A recruiting safari.
Today is the last day of the ‘relaxing’ part of my trip to South Africa. I write to you from the magnificent Delaire Graff Estate just outside Stellenbosch, in the Cape Wine lands. And what a location it is. Magnificent scenery, fine food, and top quality wine.
But tomorrow, it’s D-day. Day one of the Savage Truth Tour of South Africa, kicks off in Cape Town, with a 3-hour seminar for consultants around ‘ The future of recruitment’, and then the afternoon session is 3.5 hours for Managers on ‘Running a profitable business’.
Then rush from the conference venue, to a plane to Durban for a repeat there on Wednesday, and then Johannesburg all over again on Friday. (Cape Town as you know is a stunning place, as you can see from this shot from our hotel room)
I am absolutely delighted by the turnout for this series. Over 350 South African recruiters paid up to attend, and late enrollments still coming in. I am grateful to APSO for their excellent organisation and marketing, and to the many local recruiters who have shown enough faith to turn up to listen to this ‘unknown’. Pressure is most definitely..on!
The South African recruitment industry is huge. A country of 50 million people, with a vibrant economy. The issues they face are similar to those worldwide. Although as a market, they rely much more heavily on job-boards than most. Recruiters will need to update their tactics on talent sourcing and I will be going into that in my sessions.
Its kind of strange for me, delivering a lecture in Cape Town, as a ‘global recruitment expert’, seeing as this is my home town, where I was born and lived for 21 years.
I hope that none of my mates from rugby or university days don’t pop up in the back row of my seminar and start to heckle me …
