[...] 2012 is the year to sort out these serial time-wasters and fire them. Don’t forget, you can choose who you do not work with. You have to prioritise your clients, and triage your job orders. Work on only those where the client is committed to working with you. Indeed you want a laser-like focus on clients who give you a return. The rest? Coach them on ways to work together. Give them another chance. Then kill off those bikers! [...]

Thanks Greg for this valuable post...

We used to think some particular clients are testing our mettle, when things are not happening inspite of our best efforts, whereas we just should have fired them without much delay.

The question is when do you let go? how long do you spend trying to bring this clients around and educate them. :) I certainly agree though, I want our company to to perceive an image that its a privilege for ourselves to be working with xyz etc

Hats off to you Greg. I think if I'm honest we still have someway to go to truly embrace your ethos, but it's one that all recruiters should be looking at much more closely.

With regards to working with and engaging with those clients that are growing and engaging in "fresh conversations", we are going to look to work much more proactively with the RPO's, positioning ourselves as an out and out specialist provider (Marketing & HR) that can add value over and above the standard fayre to them and their clients. Time will tell if we have taken the wrong approach, but there seems to be a huge opportunity to start talking to these guys and making the process work even more profitably and successfully.
